What happens if you steal in skyrim

Aye find the thieves guild, they can give you pickpocket missions, which helps re-establish the thieves guild and works towards one of those steam achievements. Hm so then it doesn't seem to great of an idea to steal if everything will be taken and or marked as stolen unless its specifically a fence.

As long as you're not caught your relationship with the person won't be effected. The stolen tag means exactly that, it's stolen. You can't sell stolen goods to normal vendors. I was at the Dragonsreach in the magicians study when i saw a soul gem. I waited for him to leave and i was in stealth mode, and i then stole it.

Now will he get angry at me later or will other people be affected by this? Also i checked my inventory and the soul gem was marked stolen. This is the first thing i stole so i don't know much. PS: is there a way to fill an empty soul gem? If the item was stolen while "hidden", then nothing will happen.
